Your Information, Simply Explained

Reading should not require handing over unnecessary personal information. This notice explains the data involved in using our journal.

Who is responsible

Quirkycompassrel Publishing Ltd, 35 Baggot Street Lower, Dublin 2, D02 F7N8, Ireland, CRO 798563, is responsible for personal information it processes in connection with quirkycompassrel.online. Contact [email protected] for privacy questions or requests.

Reading the site

This website does not require an account. The site code does not include analytics, advertising trackers, third-party fonts or embedded social widgets. Loading pages and local images still involves technical requests to the hosting service. Technical information such as an IP address, request time, requested resource and browser information may be processed in server logs to deliver the site, maintain security and investigate faults.

Where technical data is processed for these purposes, the basis is our legitimate interest in operating a reliable and secure publication. Hosting and technical service providers may process data on our behalf under appropriate contractual arrangements. We do not sell personal information or use reader enquiries for advertising profiles.

The enquiry composer

Information typed into the Contact page is used in your browser to create a plain-text draft. The composer does not submit it to us, store it in local storage or send it to a third-party form service. Copying writes the draft to your device clipboard if you permit it; downloading creates a text file on your device. Your browser, operating system and any clipboard synchronisation service may handle those copies under their own settings.

If you email us, we receive the information you choose to send, including your email address, message and ordinary email metadata. We use it to consider and respond to the enquiry, assess corrections and maintain relevant correspondence. This processing is based on our legitimate interest in handling reader communications; legal obligations may also require us to retain particular records.

Retention and disclosure

We retain correspondence only for as long as reasonably needed for the enquiry, related editorial follow-up, legal obligations or the establishment or defence of legal claims. Technical records should be retained only for operational and security needs. We do not promise a single retention period for every kind of record. You may ask about the records relevant to you.

Information may be handled by providers supporting hosting, email and technical administration, or disclosed where required by law. Where a provider processes personal data outside the European Economic Area, an applicable lawful transfer mechanism is required, such as an adequacy decision or appropriate contractual safeguards.

Your rights

Subject to applicable conditions, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of your personal information, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. If processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing. We may need proportionate information to verify a request.

You can contact us using the address above. You may also complain to Ireland’s Data Protection Commission or your local supervisory authority. These rights are not all absolute; we will explain any relevant limitation when responding.
