Managing Your Cookie Choices

Browser storage should have a clear purpose. Here is what the journal’s own code does, and how to control information held on your device.

Cookies and local storage are different

A cookie is a small piece of information that a browser may send back to a website with later requests. Local storage keeps information for a website in your browser without automatically adding it to each request. Both can be subject to privacy and electronic communications rules, depending on their purpose.

What the journal code uses

The journal’s own scripts do not set cookies, run analytics or advertising tags, or create a visitor identifier. Navigation, scroll effects and the enquiry composer work without persistent storage. Your enquiry draft stays in the current page’s memory and is not written to local storage by the composer.

Copying an enquiry writes text to your clipboard if your browser permits it. Downloading creates a text file on your device. These are actions you request, not tracking technologies. You control any resulting clipboard entries or downloaded files through your device settings.

Hosting and preference controls

Hosting services may supply essential technical functions and their own consent controls. If a consent control is displayed, use it to choose whether optional technologies may operate. Optional analytics or advertising should not be activated merely because you continue browsing. Any additional technology needs a clear explanation of its purpose and applicable choice before use.

A stored consent preference, where used, records your choice rather than granting permission for unrelated processing. Local storage usually remains until cleared by the user or site code, whereas cookies may have a set expiry. Private browsing, blocked storage or clearing site data can mean you are asked again.

Use your browser controls

You can inspect or remove cookies and local storage in your browser’s site-data or privacy settings. You can also block storage or use a private browsing session. Deleting browser data does not recall an email, remove a file you downloaded or delete copies of text held by clipboard history or synchronisation services.

If a separately supplied consent control stores its choice under a different key, use that control or clear all data for this domain through your browser. Clearing a preference alone does not necessarily remove cookies that were already created.
